GYROKINESIS® Workshop
The practice of GYROKINESIS® enhances the joy of moving with breath, intention and fluidity. Gentle, flowing movements offer benefits similar to yoga, dance and tai chi, as arcs, spirals and figure-eight movements integrate breathing, motion and awareness. Performed seated on a chair, with some standing work, GYROKINESIS® articulates the spine, promoting a holistic sense of movement and contributing to supporting the many health benefits of dynamic alignment. The practice is enjoyable and easily adaptable for movers of all ages, levels and backgrounds. For this introductory workshop, please dress for comfort in moving, bring your water bottle, and if possible, practice in socks or bare feet. ABOUT CAROL: Carol Anderson has enjoyed a diverse career as a dancer, choreographer, educator and writer for more than five decades. She started performing in 1970 with Canadian dance pioneer Judy Jarvis, and was a founding member of Toronto’s Dancemakers in 1974. Her body of writing includes dance biographies, notes, articles, online resources and poetry. An Emerita of York University’s dance faculty, Carol continues to create dance for the stage and non-traditional spaces, now devoting her teaching practice to older movers, and was a founding creative leader of Flight Festival in 2021. She’s honoured to be the 2024 recipient of the Robert Johnston Visionary Artist Award. Her intergenerational legacy investigation Elsinore / Soliloquies was performed in April, 2025, as part of Citadel Dance Exchange. |
